Nintendo Switch 2 is official with 7.9" 120fps VRR display, 4K at 60fps when docked

The switch 2 handheld, hardware wise it is more comparable to a Steamdeck than a console. It is a huge set up from the Switch, which is massively memory bandwidth starved. The Switch 2 has a very completive CPU in terms of performance per clock performance compared to even a PS5, it is a handheld and cant run at the clock speeds a PS5 runs at.

I already registered at Nintendo online to buy the damn thing. Cheaper than the PS5 Pro I never play..

I was really hoping Nintendo would show off cross the line improvements to current gen switch titles running on new hardware.

For the GPU I can see that if they don't downclock it to hell and back as they did with the Switch 1. As for the CPU I doubt it will come close to what the PS5 is offering, the power budget just isn't there even docked.

And it being cheaper than than the PS5 Pro means absolutely nothing when it is more expensive than the PS5 :)

PS5 isnt portable, doesn't come with a Screen. You need to purchase more items to use a PS5 than simply the PS5. And the Cost is the Same as a PS5, you can still use your cart collection and physical games on a Switch 2. The PS5 digital edition does not give you that. Price is in line with the cost of a SteamDeck and a better docked experience. As my experience connecting my steamdeck to a TV is horrible.

Graphic power has always been a meaning less benchmark. The Switch 2 has the CPU and Memory bandwidth to easily handle 60fps gameplay. That is all that matters.

I too would like it to be cheaper, everything the last few years has gotten expensive. Even Budget mid range graphic cards are a $500+ purchase.

The switch 2 will be sold out non stop for the first year just like the original switch was. People underestimate how many people can easily afford these things. There are a crap ton of people in this country that despite the current state of priced goods have plenty of money left over every week after well funding their 401k, ira, 529s, hsa, brokrage accounts, etc..... I have two switches for example, day one and the OLED. Passed the day one unit to my daughter. The OLED will most likely be hers. Plenty of people will buy the Switch 2 mid life cycle just like they did with the switch.

The game prices were inevitable. Doom Dark Ages already $79.99 and other companies have announced higher prices too. I'm not surprised one bit by this, but it does sound like there will be variable pricing by game. DK Banaza, which seems like a fairly solo experience was $69.99 and Mario Kart World, an online experience with a seemingly massive world, $79.99. I'm not as upset about this as many people are because it was coming anyway, we already knew that.

Nvidia's statement today said the Switch 2 was 10X the "graphics performance" of Switch. Quotes because Nvidia uses this statement rather disingenuously with frame-gen and DLSS often factored into the equation. That being said, if truly 10X the raw performance of Switch, that would be rather impressive and make it quite a bit more powerful than Steam-Deck and certainly competitive with the XS-S in terms of performance before you even factor in that it has DLSS available. I'm very skeptical of this claim though because of 5070 having the performance of a 4090 which was a bold-faced lie. We'll have to wait and see if this holds up.

That being said, Digital Foundry pixel counters said that Mario Kart World was running native 1440p at 60fps, no DLSS to reiterate. That's pretty good and would suggest the game can run around 120fps at 1080p with a huge open world and a ton more detail than what MK8 has on Switch. People are knocking that game because on the surface it looks a lot like MK8, which was a good looking game, but when you actually look at the detailed backgrounds, the much higher detailed karts, and volumetric lighting the game employs, it's a much more demanding game than MK8, not to mention massive draw distances which seem to render even many details quite far out.

The Direct yesterday had me pretty disappointed, but as more details emerge, it sounds like Nintendo Switch 2 might actually justify the price tag. The 120hz 1080p, HDR, G-Sync screen... come on guys, who saw that coming from Nintendo.

"The Switch 2 has the CPU and Memory bandwidth to easily handle 60fps gameplay" - pff hahahaha. ok :)

Hard pass, just like it was a hard pass for the first version.

Maybe if there was an OLED screen or something exciting about it, but there really isn't. It's just Nintendo fanboi tech.
