Spotify is a new way to listen to music
Any track you like, any time you like. Just search for it in Spotify, then play it. Any artist, any album, any genre - all available instantly. With Spotify, there are no limits to the amount of music you could listen to.
Think of Spotify as your new music collection. Your library. Only this time your collection is vast: over 13 million tracks and counting. You can create as many playlists as you like from this collection. And because the music plays live, there's no need to wait for downloads and no big dent in your device's storage.
How much does Spotify cost?
Spotify can be free with some limitations or it can be paid. The free version allows access to the entire Spotify library but you can only play music in shuffle, skip up to six times per hour, and there is no offline mode.
The first paid tier is the Individual Plan which costs $9.99 per month and is fully featured. This includes offline mode, no ads and on-demand playback. There is also the Duo plan for $12.99 (two users) and the Family Plan for $15.99 which allows up to 6 accounts with Spotify Kids.
Can I download a song from Spotify?
Spotify allows songs to be downloaded for offline listening within the app only in paid plans. Songs cannot be transferred outside of Spotify. To download music to your device, add songs to a playlist and the option will become available.
What are some Spotify alternatives?
There are few Spotify alternatives. The most relevant are Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Tidal, and Soundcloud.
How many songs does the Spotify catalog have?
Spotify currently has over 80 million tracks and about 4.7 million podcast episodes. It's currently the largest streaming audio service.
Music to share
Thanks to Spotify, it's now easier than ever to share music. You're free to share everything you listen to on Spotify with your friends - tracks, playlists, the lot. Just send them a link to a track or playlist and they can listen instantly. If you like, you can also collaborate on shared playlists. Social music made simple.
Thank you for the music
Having instant access to all this music is a wonderful thing, but what about the artists and musicians who make it? We're big believers in rewarding their creativity. That's why we came up with a way to fairly compensate them for the music featured on Spotify. If they stop, the music stops. To us, it's a no-brainer.
What's New
All the Ways It's Even Easier To Discover Your Next Favorite Podcast on Spotify
Spotify is all about bringing you closer to the voices and stories you love. That means that finding your next favorite podcast should feel as effortless and personal as getting a top recommendation from a friend. And it's why we're also helping creators share their unique shows with people around the world.
Building on that vision, we've started rolling out new mobile features that make it even easier to find, follow, and fall in love with the latest podcasts, audio, and video. This is a win for creators, too, as it gives them new ways to reach even more audiences around the globe.
Unlock your next podcast find on Home
One of our top-requested features from podcast listeners is the ability to find new podcasts they'll love. That's why we're bringing discovery front and center on Home for users who love podcasts. Just below your shortcuts, you'll start seeing recommendations for podcasts and video podcasts ready to be played or saved, making exploring new shows and episodes easier and more immersive. And for some recommendations, we might even add a quick note on why we think it's a good fit for you, to help make bold picks feel more accessible.
It's all designed to help you strike the perfect balance between what you already love and what you'll love next while giving creators more chances to connect with listeners like you. We've already begun rolling out these updates globally, and early feedback shows that more users are engaging, saving, and liking, telling us that they're discovering new podcasts they enjoy.
Stay on top of the shows you love
Ever find yourself searching different parts of Spotify to find the latest episodes from the podcasts you follow? We know this has proved to be challenging. So we've made it simpler: We're bringing all of your favorite podcast episodes from the shows you follow into one place within the Podcasts Following feed. With this new update, you can effortlessly stay plugged in and up-to-date with the creators you love most.
This feature gives you a dedicated place to catch all the latest releases from the podcasts you follow – all in one easy-to-access feed within your main Podcast feed on Home. We'll continue to explore new ways to make this space even better. So whether you're tuning in for entertainment, inspiration, or discovery, there's always something fresh and relevant waiting for you.
More ways to dive deeper and engage
Spotify is the platform with your favorite music, podcasts, and (where available) audiobooks all in one place. Have you ever watched a podcast and wanted to save that song they just mentioned or that book the host recommended? Or maybe you were listening to your favorite author talk about the music or books that inspired them, and wanted to save those for later. Now we're making it easier to explore across formats, too.
Rolling out globally in the coming weeks, the new "In this episode" section lets creators link directly to other content they mention in their podcasts that's also on Spotify – from other podcasts and songs to audiobooks, playlists, and more – all in one place on the episode page. It's perfect for fans who want to dive deeper and for creators working across formats.
But wait, there's more. We're enhancing our comments experience with threads based on your feedback. Creators can now deepen conversations with users with threaded replies and easily express themselves with emoji reactions. They'll continue to be able to control the experience through their Spotify for Creators account, where they can select their preferred settings on which comments appear or opt out of their shows or specific episodes from the experience.
Every update is designed to bring fans and creators closer together through discovery, conversation, music, podcasts, and audiobooks that resonate. We're excited to keep building features that help you find, follow, and fall in love with the shows, while giving creators more ways to grow and connect with their communities.
Previous release notes
Discovering music should feel effortless and fun. That's why Spotify continuously innovates to bring our users features and tools for seamless discovery, intuitive playlist curation, and a uniquely personal listening experience.
Starting today, we're gradually rolling out a new suite of features and tests that put you in the driver's seat and offer you more control over your listening and discovery. Our latest updates give you even more tools to curate playlists, refine your recommendations, and shape your music journey.
Optimize your listening sessions
Good news for Premium users: Queue, those three lines at the bottom of your Now Playing view, just got an upgrade. The new design is easier to use and includes controls like Shuffle, Smart Shuffle, Repeat, and Sleep Timer. Plus, Premium users will also start seeing which songs Spotify recommends after your queued-up tracks end, so you can decide what makes it into your queue. Prefer to stick with your own picks during your listening sessions? You can easily switch Autoplay and Smart Shuffle off in your settings for full control.
We're also making it easier to shape your musical journey with an updated Hide button and the new Snooze feature. Hear a track that just doesn't fit the vibe? The refreshed Hide button is now more intuitive, and when you tap it, the track will be hidden from that playlist across all devices, so we won't play it again in that playlist. And if you need more of a break from a song, keep an eye out for our new 30-day Snooze feature. This option allows you to temporarily remove a track from your recommendations, so you can keep things fresh while leaving the door open for a future reunion. We're starting to test this for Premium users and are planning to bring it to more listeners soon.
Customize your playlist listening experience
We're introducing new mobile playlist management tools that will help you customize your creations. Now, at the top of all your playlists, you'll find easy access to Add, Sort, and Edit to build your track list, change your playlist title, create custom cover art, and perfectly sequence each song.
If you're always adding to your Liked Songs, there's good news: listeners in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the U.K., and the United States can now use this tracklist to build playlists. Try it out by filtering by genre and tapping "turn into a playlist."
Curate and collaborate with ease
Whether you're looking to dive deeper into the music you love or discover your next favorite artist, we wanted to simplify access to our music-curation tools. Now, by tapping the Create button "+" at the bottom-right side of your mobile app, you'll be able to easily create your playlist, collaborate with friends, and join a Blend. If you're a mobile Premium user in a supported market, the Create button will also provide quick access to Jam for real-time listening with friends, and AI Playlist, where you can turn your most creative ideas into playlists. And with our recent expansion of AI Playlist to more markets, even more listeners can bring their creativity to the next level.
Looking for Your Library to access all your personalized content and creations? It's still there, we just moved it slightly. On mobile, you'll see it as the third option at the bottom of your app.
